micro teaching

I did a micro teaching with Kanako . We did Pre-reading and In-reading activities in the micro teaching . The object of the micro teaching is to understand difference of how to order in a restaurant between Japan and US .

-weak point and strong point-

strong point
*We used a jesture , it heped understanding difference .
*We did "T or F "to check that students could understand the content .
*I spoke KANCHIGAI story to show the difference of culture for students .

weak point
*We should have made more chances for the students to read text book .
*We should have made communication between students .

-Discover about teaching-
After my micro teaching I feel teaching english is difficult . We practiced our micro teaching many time , but Icannot do well . I thought a teacher have to think that how students respond for a question . This micro teaching was good experience .

How to be a good English teacher

June , 22 Mr . Maruhasi Who is Jr. high school teacher said about Jr. high scool and students . I could learn many things from it . First , Mr. Maruhasi said a techer should have a lot of
experience for example part time jobs and circle activities and traveling and so on . He said " these will surely useful when you talk to students . " Second , he said " A good teacher is good at using old way and new way in the class . Old way means reading a text book and word practice , new way means ALT class . Third , a teacher has to develop students' ability in the class so if students could not develop their ability the class was bad class . To be a good teacher these things are important .

Teaching vocabulary

Today we learned about two approaches for teaching vocabulary: the Teach and Learn Approach and the Learning through Input Approach. You can see a PowerPoint presentation of the approaches here. I would like to tell you about the strengths and weaknesses of each approach as well as the approach I would use as a Junior High School English teacher.

1.Present and Learn
I think this is easy to acquire a new vocabulary and to understand how to use the word in a sentense for students but this simple and fixed task bore students .

2.Teaching Through Input
I think this interesting for some students .For example the techer talk a story in the class students can acqire new words accidentally . This is exciting for some students but some students can not understand the words so this may take student' motivation .

Maybe I will use "Present and Learn " because I think this is easier than the another for many students .

Comunicative activities

Today, I am going to review two of the "typical Japanese junior high school"communicative activities presented in ETM 3. The activities I am going to review are ''Using movement'' and ''Interview'' . You can view them here .

I thought I can improve ''Using movement'' . I think this activity is more interesting if students do this game with many people like jesture game than do this only he and his partner .

I thought I can improve ''Interview'' . A student who was asked ''What were you doing at 8:00 pm '' asks the partner ''How about you that time ? '' I think it improves student's English comunication skill .

My important thing

There are many important thing for me . Friends , family , money , cell phone and so on but now my most tresured thing is 'Nomura note ' . This is a book written by Katsuya Nomura . He is the manager of Rakuten Golden Eagles now . When he was player his position was catcher and my position is catcher too . I think he is the cleverest manager in Japan and I respect him . His ideas for baseball are written in this book . this is my bible so this is my important thing .

My English activity

*My most enjoyable language learning is English class with ALT when I was junior high scool . He came from New Zealand . He talked about his country . It was very fun .

*My lerast enjoyable language learning activity was entrance examination for the university . this was very hard for me .

*My most valueble language learning activity is "English speeking class " at Iwate University .I experienced native speeking . I was impressed by the class .

*My least valuable language learning activyty is memorization of trancelated English sentences for examination . I think it does not help improve one's English abilty .
